Used initially by journalists and musicians to classify the audience that was gathered around specific musical genres, the concept of musical scene became in the social sciences and in cultural studies, a vigorous analytical instrument for the reading of the relations produced between musicians, entrepreneurs and fans in the most different local, translocal and virtual contexts.
The idea emerged as a theoretical alternative to the concepts of community and subculture – which in the 1970s and 1980s were widely used by scholars in music research – being first employed in the early 1990s in a pioneering text by Will Straw (1991). For this author, the scenes transcend space and refer to a certain state of relations between individuals that are based on the sharing of affinities at the level of musical styles.
It is a concept that has been increasingly mobilized for the sociological discussion around youth cultures and sociabilities in urban context, in particular with regard to the study of expressive practices and youth rituals around music.
Scenes have often been used to analyze and describe the spaces of contemporary consumption and cultural production, increasingly flexible and involving barriers that many times are invisible, existing simultaneously in very diverse spatial contexts. Nowadays, the studies on musical scenes have gained a new breath by joining analytical perspectives such as: sociology of taste, art worlds, studies on consumption, performativity theory, actor-network theory, among others, producing vigorous analyzes of musical phenomena, either to understand changes in the processes of circulation and distribution of this symbolic good, or to understand the impact of music on the daily lives of the population.
In this way, we await your proposals for works in the field of social sciences resulting from research in progress or already completed and that focus on the various musical scenes, their fragmentation, their unfolding, their developments or even their restructurings. Musical markets, artistic performances, youth lifestyles, musical artivism, live music consumption and aesthetic enjoyment are contemporary axes of inquiry highlighted and also highlighted by musical scenes around the world.

Although the journal favors proposals in Portuguese, it also accepts proposals in English, Spanish and French.
